This is who we are.
Our days are spent serving others, putting out fires, and doing the things no one else wants to do.
We wake up and put ourselves last – because what gets us going, is lending a helping hand and watching meaningful work take your business soaring.
We sometimes work late nights and early mornings to make sure all the t’s are crossed, and the i’s are dotted.
We are service providers.
But, being a behind-the-scenes provider is not always what it seems. There are a lot of misconceptions that others get wrong about us – especially those who focus on systems operations.
Here are 3 common misconceptions about service providers:
1️⃣ We can’t fix things with a snap of a finger. (We CAN fix the issue – but we don’t have magical powers. Give your team grace and time to fix the problem.)
The way we are able to get to the root of the problem, find the answer and do the work to solve it, might take longer than you anticipate. So give your behind-the-scenes team some grace.
Juggling the stress of making sure it’s right (without having to come back and fix it again) with the outside stress and pressure of “this needs to be done asap” sets us into fight or flight, and instead of using what we know, we are fighting against time to just get it done. If you want it done the right way, it might just mean we need another 5 minutes.
2️⃣ We don’t always know the answer. (But – we WILL point you in the direction of another solution or path to find that answer.)
We are hired to be your right-hand and to fight the fires that pop up when we don’t see it coming. But sometimes, we don’t always know the answer. (because we are all humans and constantly learning)
We aren’t perfect – BUT WHAT WE ARE – are people who thrive in learning how to find the answer to prevent or learn for next time.
3️⃣ We can’t fix everything. (Some things break. Some things can’t be fixed. Our job is to adapt and be the glue for your business. Even if that means scrapping a process if it can’t be fixed or solved another way.)
As much as we love to be the go-to for all-the-things and the one whos in the weeds behind-the-scenes, sometimes the extent of what we can do for the problem, isn’t enough, and sometimes, the problem can’t be fixed. Not everything was meant to be seamless and perfect.
If it can’t be fixed – what we CAN do, is provide an alternative solution.
I’m here to break the stigma and stand for those who struggle to stand for themselves. It’s okay that we aren’t perfect, but for us to recognize that is just as important for others to understand that.
